TexBlog PAC Endorsed: Robert Miklos (HD 101)

Among districts that are key to turning the Texas House “blue” is House District 101, a Dallas County district that includes Mesquite, Balch Springs, and Sunnyvale. The seat is an open seat thanks to the defeat of incumbent State Rep. Robert Latham (R-Mesquite) by Robert Anderson in a divisive Republican Primary race earlier this year.

For the first time in almost a decade, Democrats have both a credible candidate on the ballot and a real chance of winning this district. In 2006, the district polled as high as 48.8 percent for statewide Democratic candidates.

With all races, however, a quality candidate is just as important–if not more important–than previous electoral trends or district demographics. That’s why TexBlog PAC is pleased to announce its endorsement of Robert Miklos for Texas House District 101.

Robert Miklos, an attorney, was raised in Dallas, graduated from Skyline High School, and earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin and a law degree from the University of Houston Law School. After four years working as a prosecutor in Houston where he took violent criminals and sex offenders off the streets, Miklos and his wife Kathy moved back home to Dallas County. In his ten years as an attorney for the City of Dallas, he rose through the ranks and served as Chief Prosecutor for the city for six year, during which time he earned a reputation as a tough prosecutor and an effective leader.

His district is one of many across the state that is clamoring for change. Polling in the district indicates that Democrats, independents, and Republicans alike are tired of the failed Republican leadership in Austin that has put special interests above the needs of ordinary Texans for the last three legislative sessions.

During the March primary, Democrats in HD 101 turned out in record numbers, outnumbering Republicans two to one. TexBlog PAC is particularly excited about Robert Miklos because his campaign has put together an aggressive field program, building on the monemtum from the primary. Miklos himself has personally pledged to knock on 10,000 doors, and is well on his way to exceeding that goal.
